The Big Annual End of the Year Clean Out

I'm a big believer in Karma. I think if you give, you get. What goes around, comes around. You should clean out your closet every year in order to refill it. That's why I am going to share with you, my handy list of what to give, throw and keep.

Give:
-Jeans you've been wearing for the whole year and are getting loose/tight.
Reason: They are going to keep getting looser/tighter. There is no going back from here. One of my favorite pair of  Abercrombie jeans that I've had for about a year and a half now started to get tighter in the biggest part of my body: my thighs. You don't want that. They will start to get way worse. Somebody else will appreciate them.
-Ultra trendy tops that aren't really practical anymore.
Reason: You don't ever want to look out of place. Being different is one thing, but say you were wearing a Victorian style dress in today's world? If you aren't totally attached to the piece and if it was a Forever 21, cheap buy, give it to Goodwill.
-Things that you haven't worn.
Reason: My mom is an avid Goodwill and vintage shopper. Her biggest obsession is things with tags still on them, or things that you can tell are brand spankin' new. She's bought tons of really beautiful sweaters from places like Saks, Macy's and Prada (Yes, Prada!) at Goodwill and vintage stores for practically nothing. If you aren't wearing it now, you probably never will. And if you've worn it once and haven't looked at it since you hung it up again, let your trash be someone else's treasure.
-Jewelry that is ultra trendy and way out of style.
Reason: I give my costume jewelry to a local consignment store and the lady can't believe how fast it sells. People love the zany jewelry you are holding hostage in your jewelry box, don't keep them waiting.
-Shoes that you don't wear.
Reason: No matter how old or how new, people love shoes. You should clean out your shoes the most often because according to a lot of people, they always buy trendy shoes and only wear them once. This is wasteful, give them away.

Throw:
-Anything with unmanageable holes in them.
Reason: I have jeans that have seen their better days, from holes in the butt, to those frayed, mud-stained bottoms. Throw them away.
-Worn out anything.
Reason: If you had a shirt that was pink and it is now working it's way down to off-white, throw it away.
-Old Make-up.
Reason: Not really a closet thing, but bacteria is a girls worst enemy. It can cause colds, illnesses, and weird skin thingies. Pitch!
-Broken jewelry, or cheap jewelry.
Reason: I know there are certain stores I go into and buy a necklace strictly for one night and one night only because I know it will break, or start to give off that unwanted metal smell after the second wear. You don't these, nor does anyone else.

Keep:
-Anything you are really attached to.
Reason: Your favorite hoodie, your coolest shirt, your favorite pair of jeans, the socks you wore on your first date. There are some things you can't and will never part with and that is totally fine.
-Layering items.
Reason: I can't shop at Hollister or Abercrombie anymore, but my old tanks from my hay days are still amazing. They're thin, stretchy and make great for layering. Layering is essential in a wardrobe. Keep!
-Classics and basics.
Reason: You can never have too many plain v-necks or too little black dresses. You need nice jeans, good high heels, practical flats and plain colored shirts.
-Handbags.
Reasons: Unless they are falling apart or really out of style, handbags can be used for a long time. They are a big part of the closet.

Things You Need to Spend Money On...Now

A Nice Coat
We're not talking the "it's trendy so let's buy it" we're talking something that is timeless. This Admiral Coat
from Ralph Lauren. A nice coat will look for work everyday and can pull your whole outfit together. You might want black, brown and/or grey so you don't clash with your outfits.

Good Jeans
You need jeans that will be with you like a marriage partner, for better and for worse, til death due you part. Jeans should grow with you. Levi's do that. This pair is their straight leg jeans. They get the job done.

A Good Pair of Heels
You should spend money on good heels. You really will get your money's worth. Classic heels can make an outfit. Even if you're wearing a v-neck and jeans. Everyone dreams in Choos and Louboutins...so why not treat yourself?

Good Lipstick in YOUR Perfect Color
You should find your perfect shade. Try out brands at the department stores or Sephora. Just experiment and you'll find it.
Your Signature Scent
You can experiment with perfume for different occasions, but like relationships, you should eventually settle down with one.

Our Favorite Flats

Flats are an essential part of any girls wardrobe, just like heels and a cute dress is. Flats are good for both night and day, dressed up or down.

American Eagle
AE Ballet Flat $29.50
These are cute and come in Light Pewter and Gold. They can add a sparkle to your favorite jeans and t-shirt combo or add glimmer to your favorite dress. These shoes are lined with chambray, so your feet don't get stinky, we all know that happens. With a low price tag and AE's constant sales, these flats are a must-have.

London Sole
Pirouette $145

These flats remind me of the feel of real ballet shoes. They are comfortable and form to your feet in a way so that they are uniquely yours. They come in a wide variety of colors so they can go with anything in your closet and London Sole sells many styles of ballet flats so might never have the same exact pair as someone else. But be careful, you might find yourself grand jete-ing around!

Elizabeth and James
Randi Suede Button Flats $235
These are the type of flats that you would live in. They are simple and have a cute detail so you're not being boring.

J.Crew
Christiane Calf Hair Ballet Flats $228
J.Crew has really stepped their game up. They have become more chic and fashionable. These cheetah/leopard print flats should be a key point in every girls closet. I think they are timeless and can had pizzazz to any outfit. If you want a lower price tag, you won't have to look far for other cheetah/leopard flats.

Spring 2010 Part One: What You Should Look For

Spring seems to always roll around way too fast for me. One minute it's bundling up and the next minute it's all about the jeans and rain jackets. With my help from style.com, I've compiled for you a little guide of what to look for on your next shopping trip.

Dresses: One word: Flowy. Think of running in slow motion, the wind taking you dress behind you. Freedom. While flowy can also be a synonym for shapeless, it's your job to veer away from that.

My Runway Favorite:

Doo.Ri
This goes with the flowy ordeal, but has a band/belt around the natural waist to reveal your womanly shape. The navy  blue will look good on anyone and this isn't too revealing.

Pants...and what not: Style.com told me this is, "Marrakech Express". Google it. With a long time of not paying attention in class on my last day and with my eye for detail, I've come to this conclusion. The MC Hammer pants will live forever and if you like this trend, think of it as if you've just visited India, or Africa or Russia or took a safari ride...look wordly.

My Favorite:

Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren really hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. I just love it. I'm not so sure about the head piece, which looks like a new version of the turban, but the rest of the outfit (minus the canteen) is in with me. Let's start with the colors, army green, white, shimmer. Perfect. The pants would work well on pretty much any shape. The shirt is a simple button jacket-blouse. It's just satin and more Ralph Lauren-ized. I don't think we should be afraid of this trend, we have to embrace it. It comes classics with a twist. The ankle strap shoes are light and delicate and the harem pants are relaxing. The shirt is something we all should own anyway.

Everything Else: While some of the Spring Things are airy and nice, the others have continued the everlasting trend of destroyed denim, bright colors and animal print galore.

My Favorite:

Narciso Rodriguez
I don't think you can ever go wrong with black and white, but it can boring. Unlike Betsey Johnson, Narciso Rodriguez sent his lines horizontal instead of the usual vertical. These jeans are nice because they look like they have a stretch to them, which makes the comfortable. With black shoes and a white top, you won't need accessories, but I wouldn't experiment with color too much if you don't want to lean toward punk.

Things to not be afraid of:
Sequins
Lines,
Sportswear
Leggings
Fierce Pumps
Natural Make Up
Simple Hair
MC Hammer Pants
Shapeless Items (Still shape them though)

Glitter, Glitter Everywhere!

Maybe it's the holidays, or maybe it's our inner child...but glitter is cool! I'm lovin' the liquid eyeliner with glitter in it. I was a cheerleader, glitter was our best friend. I love putting it on my eyelids for parties, but not over doing it. The Lippmann Collection nail polish is perfect for those who aren't so daring.

Trend: Sequins

I was a little worried when sequins came back in style. All I could think of was those big, slouchy, shapeless sequined bags all the "teenieboppers" were carrying. But the sequins are actually fun. I love sequins and when they're worn right, they are something beautiful.

Favorites:

Haute Hippie Sequin Sweatpants
$295
I like these. They're not silver, so you're not giving off the Michael Jackson back-up dancer look. You get your sparkle, but most of all, you get your comfort. They're pricey, but you'd probably where them everyday.

Forever 21 Circle Ring Sequin Vest
$19.80
I like this, it's simple. It looks formal and would be perfect with skinny jeans and heels or a long sleeved shirt and leggings.

32 Flavors Horizontal Sequins Mini Dress

$168
This looks summery. I like the shape of it. The sequins aren't overwhelming.

Gap Mesh Chain Necklace
$39.50
I have this necklace. I wore it with a black jersey t-shirt dress, tights and heels I got two years ago at Forever 21. I've also worn it with a white slouchy shirt and jeans.

Wishlist

I like to Polyvore everything I want at the moment. Have a looksy.

Paparazzi: Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley at the New York premiere of Nine.

I've been a fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley since I was little. Their style is one of the most unique out there and many of have tried to imitate, but they can't do it like the original dumpster chic twins. But who I really want to focus on right now is Mary-Kate.

Her Jacket: I love it. I zoomed in on the original photo and the jacket's diamonds are glittery. And the buttons are stars.
Skirt/Dress: The black is simple and compliments her jacket and accessories. Fabulous.
Jewels: The bracelets are simple, the red one sticks out, matches the jacket and draws your eyes toward her clutch.
Clutch: I'm still searching for it. It's gorgeous and MAKES the outfit. I can't find that shade of blue.

According to Olsenlove.org, this is Mary-Kate leaving the office. This would also make a nice night look.

Once again, this would be plain and boring if MK hadn't added the woven clutch and the big ring.

Clutch: I can't find a relaxed style like hers, but I found one on net-a-porter.com by Michael Kors
Woven Raffia Clutch . And it's on sale for $140. A deal for some of us.
Ring: Mary-Kate seems like the earthy stone rings. I found these while looking for stone rings.
Booties: Forever 21 never fails to help us. The closest ones I could find.
I love the black again. I'm a big fan of black, it make mostly anyone look good. Just don't over do it. Take notes from Mary-Kate and keep your make up light and natural, after all, you're beautiful!

Accessorize: Speck Products CandyShell iPhone Case

Speck CandyShell Case for iPhone 3G and 3GS
I'm lovin' this phone case! I really like the colors they come in. Hard cases usually aren't this slick looking and often come in boring neutrals. With the holidays, these cases are the best present for someone who treasures their iPhone (like I do) especially if you're searching at the last minute. Also makes a good stocking stuffer!!! Purchase one at your local AT&T store or online at www.speckproducts.com

Spotlight: Celebutante

Product: Benefit Cosmetics Celebutante
Price: $34

I purchased this at Sephora last week online. I ordered it last Sunday and it came that Tuesday. The shipping was fast (and free due to it being on the free shipping holiday list), the product was great and I got free samples of make-up remover, Very Hollywood perfume and temporary tattoos!

Benefit Cosmetics calls this "the personal stylist" and I can't help but agree. It has my two favorite eye shadow colors by Benefit, Leggy and Dandy Brandy. These are two shades that are very versatile for both day and night. It also comes with my favorite bronzer, Dallas. It's what I like to call the perfect texture of bronzer, it's not orange, it's not glittery and it has a sheer-opaque thing going for it. It can really highlight any skin tone because it has a rosy tint to it also. Celebutante has two lipsticks: Lady's Choice and No Competition. I've wearing Lady's Choice everyday to class. It's a nude color with a mix of light pink. It's very natural. No Competition is where the night part comes in. It's a plum/dark red color. It goes on really smooth and has moisturizing oils in it. Like every dark lip shade, make sure your lips aren't chapped or it's not going to be pretty. Celebutante also has a lipgloss in I'm With the Band. It's a shimmer pink/tan color. It comes off a bit quicker than I expected but is less sticky and more sheen than other lip glosses which is a plus! And it smells like candy! The other two tubes in the kit are two classic Benefit products. The first one is Benetint, cheek and lipstain. Three swipes and a quick rub will grant you a chic, cheery, rosy cheeks. And the last, but certainly not least: "The Supermodel in a Bottle"...High Beam. It will give you a glow that can lighten up your darkest days. It lives up to it's nickname.

I love it. It saved me tons of money by not having to individually buying all the products and I didn't have to buy brushes, either. The fluff eyeshadow and talent brush comes with it and so does the bronzer brush. Try it out and tell me what you think.
