Favorable Fashion Books

The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia

This is one of the most
books of style I have ever come across. It is a good guide if you want to improve, refine or re-do your style. It should be an essential in everyone's library.

The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own by Nina Garcia

You should own this book as well. The One Hundred is the best guide you will ever need to your closet and to your personal style.

Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour by Rachel Zoe with Rose Apodaca

If you love Rachel Zoe and her style, this is the guide for you. Not only does Zoe put her input on everything in here, she really stresses how you should be yourself.

Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for Everyday Life by Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power

I love WhoWhatWear.com, they keep me in the know about what everyone is wearing. They also keep me from being overly trendy and keeping my personal style while incorporating some of my favorite trends. Check it out.

Why We Should Be Fearless for Fall 2010

  1. We have a lot of color to work with: For example, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Oscar De La Renta and many others. They are rich colors, vibrant ones. You have to be bold. You have to go out on a limb and experiment.
  2. We can have our cake...and not worry about the calories: Babydolls are back in...I hear the stampede to the stores already. As reported by fashionista.com, we can wear our favorite loosy goose shirts that make us look like pregnant women...who cares?
  3. We Can Wear Sweaters: Even the crazy "Grandma, you shouldn't have made me another sweater" sweaters. Look to ADAM for direction.
  4. We have a chance to be Goths: Diane Von Furstenberg's dark eyes on the runway are incredibly inspirational. Let's all go buy black, shiny eyeliner and eyeshadow and not care about it being messy. Thank you, Diane!
  5. We can all be cool as the New York hipsters: Can you say leopard print coats and fedoras? The fedora trend hasn't died yet and the leopard print coat one isn't going anywhere... Like Rebecca Taylor did, combine them to make sweet, fashionable harmony.
  6. We can make all black not look so plain: Like Jay-Z but better. Your all black pants, your all black shirt with the black belt and gold buckle and your favorite black Louboutins won't be criticized. You can wear them together, go and prepare.

New York Fashion Week Favorites

If I did a detailed post about everything that I loved about NYFW besides the Cut's tweets or Fashionista's reviews, or being jealous of everyone who got to attend NYFW... anyways, here's my favorites.

Oscar De La Renta
Fall 2010 Ready to Wear

I loved this whole collection. I just loved it. The colors...amazing.

R.I.P. [Lee] Alexander McQueen

Rest In Peace Alexander McQueen

I think everyone in the fashion world came to a startling halt for a moment when hearing about the death of one of the most successful and amazing designers, Alexander McQueen. He was 40 years old. McQueen had been through the suicide of one of his dear friends, Isabella Blow and the death of his mother last Tuesday. McQueen was found yesterday in his London flat, said to have hanged himself. Alexander McQueen was one of the most influential designers of our day. Just one week from London Fashion Week where he was supposed to debut his newest collection, we are feeling the gap where McQueen should be. He will always be in our hearts. He was a great man and he will sincerely be missed.

You can view McQueen's collections at Style.com.

Spring 2010 Part 3: Spotlight Special on Versace

Versace

Dearest Donatella,
Your line stole my heart this season, I don't think it's ever giving it back.
Love,
Kaitlin

Versace this season is amazing. I love how a lot of designers are working with the pastel, Easter colors and not trying to do anything to dramatic. As we are trying to veer out of recession mode, the bright colors make us smile. I love how Donatella was inspired by Alice in Wonderland (which comes out this March!) and worked around that. The colors and prints are awesome and add a unique touch to pieces that look like her older works. My personal favorites are the purple gown at the end and the pink Alice in Wonderland print dress. What about you?

The 2010 Grammys: Fashion Hall Of Fame...and Hall Of Shame

I usually am not a fan of the Grammys, but I've become quite the music buff within the last two years. I like pretty much every kind of music, except that screamo/Marilyn Manson stuff, but anyways.... My favorite performances had to be:
1. Beyonce. She was plain AMAZING. She always puts on a show. & Drake/Eminem/Lil Wayne/Travis Barker. It's a tie. They're all some of my favorites! I loved how Quentin Tarantino presented them.
2. The Zac Brown Band. Country music always gets downplayed... this proved how good country can be!
3. The Black Eyed Peas. I loved the high energy! And they're back up dancers... Fergie was FIERCE!
4. Pink. She continues to amaze me with those acrobatic things.
5. Michael Jackson's Tribute. Amazing. Earth Song is incredible. Read Nicole Richie's Twitter. Her godfather and father are musical heroes.
6. Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli for Haiti. Soooo Powerful! What a duo. I want to know when the album's coming out!
7. Taylor Swift and Stevie Nicks. It wasn't that good, but I think Stevie Nicks is incredible and Taylor always seems genuinely excited when she wins. She's come a long way. But she should have sang another song other than "You Belong With Me".
8. The Elton John half of the Gaga/Elton performance. Can't stand Lady Gaga.

Here's my fashion review.... :)

Hall Of Fame

Beyonce
Wearing Stephane Rolland. This is something only B can pull off with her curves. You go Beyonce!

Looking crafty... I like it.

You're all thinking it, but I'm saying it: SEXY.

Lea Michele
Wearing a Romona Keveza number, the Glee star is really working the red carpet.

Taylor Swift
I love Taylor. I wish she had boobs to fill out this dress a little bit better, but Taylor works the sparkles on this Kaufman Franco dress.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie was looking fabulous wearing a Georges Chakra gown. I'm not sure about the cross strap around her shoulder, but I do like the piece in general.

Miley Cyrus

Miley got herself in here because she has a decent amount of clothing on and she looks good. Go Miley! Covering up is what it's all about!

Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige!! Wow! She's looking stunning for her age in this Gucci number!

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer always knows how to work her curves. She was looking glamorous last night. I love you, Jen! She was wearing Victoria Beckham... I like!

Heidi Klum

Heidi is beautiful. I love her body in this dress, she fills it out perfectly.

In all: Almost everyone looked pretty good, but there was a few people who didn't look good.

Hall Of Shame
*cue scary music*

Lady Gaga

Dear Lady Gaga....No. This wasn't even cool. You look like a fourth grader's solar system science project. Not cute, not cool, not interesting. Yellow hair is not nice. Not cool. Not interesting.
(Gown by: Giorgio Armani Prive)

Rihanna

Ri-Ri looks like she went through a paper shredder in this Elie Saab Haute Couture gown.
